There are many different types of search engines. They are alike in many simple ways. They all have a simple search bar to type in the initial search. They search a complete database with tons of information that is somewhat the same for each engine but varies a little. One engine is Bing, it is the newest program from Microsoft (formerly Windows Live Search) and is designed to help with a more defined search and more decisions to make the search more precise. Another engine is One more search engine is Altavista. This was one of the first search engines, it is not as popular anymore but it does have great multilingual search options. One last search engine is Lycos, this was also one of the first main search engines. Dogpile is one more search engine, except this engine actually combines the searches of Google, Yahoo!, Bing and Ask.com. Advanced Search is a way to refine a search further within Google. It asks specific questions about the search that help narrow down the sometimes millions of searches. Another Google branch is Google Scholar, this is a search that finds mostly educational literature written by those involved in education, including PhDs, graduates students, and professors.
